|About us. We are aiming at self-sufficiency and as such do not breed fowl for show. We aim to breed for eggs, meat, disease resistance and quiet disposition. As bee keepers we are urged to breed Bees that are less likely to swarm because "It’s inconvenient." So is the decline in Bees throughout the World because of this outdated bureaucratic attitude and chemical misuse. It’s like asking a cattle breeder to use a Bull that is infertile as their friendlier! As such our Barnevelder Chickens are bred to lay large brown eggs with darker speckled that not just look good but are good. This was what the breed was created for in the Dutch Town of Barnevelded in 1899. They were not breed for just their looks, but eggs and meat. They are however a very docile chicken who can lay up to 200 eggs per year even in the winter months and will do so for several years allowing them to be your pets as well. They are hardy and good foragers.
